DS423+ ungewöhnlich langsam (Disks?)

Hallo zusammen,

ich bin vor einigen Monaten von einer Eigenbau-Xpenology NAS auf eine DS423+ umgestiegen. In der NAS sind 4× Seagate Exos X18 (16 TB, 3.5", CMR) im RAID 5 und insgesamt 6GB RAM. Leider habe ich ziemlich Performance Probleme mit der NAS. Diese werden an unterschiedlichen Stellen deutlich:
  • Dateiübertragung von NAS per SMB und FTP mit deutlichen "dips"
  • Lange Ladezeiten in Plex
  • Lange Ladezeiten, bis hin zu Lade-Abbrüchen in Sonarr und Radarr, wenn ein Download via SABnzbd läuft
  • Downloads über SABnzbd erreichen nicht die volle Geschwindigkeit meiner Gigabit-Internetleitung
All diese Probleme habe ich auf meiner Eigenbau-NAS nicht, die direkt daneben am selben Switch hängt. Ich würde also Netzwerkprobleme erst mal ausschließen. Am Beispiel Dateiübertragung per SMB: Wenn ich von meiner Eigenbau-NAS zu meinem PC eine 6GB Datei übertrage, habe ich komplett durchgehend 1 Gbit (ca. 112MB/s) anliegen, während die DS423+ mit 112MB/s startet, dann zwischendurch aber auch mal auf 60MB/s oder weniger runtergeht.

Wenn ich direkt auf der NAS einen Performance-Test per

starte, sehe ich Geschwindigkeiten von um die 200 Mb/s (ca. 20 Mal getestet), teilweise auch deutlich darunter (der letzte Test lag bei 164 MB/s). Wenn ich das mit anderen Werten vergleiche, die ich im Internet gefunden habe, dürfte das deutlich zu wenig sein.

Im Speicher-Manger werden mir nach einem SMART Test alle Disks mit "In Ordnung" angezeigt, augenscheinlich laufen auch sonst keine Disk-Operationen.

Könnte mir bitte noch jemand einen Tipp geben, woran meine Performance-Probleme liegen könnten? Bzw. was ich noch tun kann, um das weiter zu troubleshooten?

So sieht es bei mir aus mit 4 x 6 TB WD red plus und die sind wesentlich langsamer als die Exos:

Logfiles habe ich bewusst nicht aktiviert, wo sehe ich das denn? RAM-Test kann ich am Wochenende mal durchführen.

Weil die Werte sehen ja eigentlich gut aus, aber diese Ausreißer verstehe ich nicht, mit deinem Setup müsstest du auf 600 MB/s im Volume md2 kommen.

Schwierig, lass mal einen Memtest laufen für den RAM.
Und teste trotzdem mal dein Netzwerk, z.B. mit Nastester

Sind die Übertragungen immer langsam und die anderen Probleme permanent.
Die DS423+ ist mehr oder weniger baugleich mit meiner DS920+ und die performt gut.

Was läuft denn so alles auf dem NAS, gibt es da evtl. Belastungsspitzen, die soviel CPU brauchen, dass fürs Software-Raid nicht mehr genug, CPU Zeit zur Verfügung steht? Aber das dümpelt ja alles nur vor sich hin.

Danke, ich teste den RAM sobald ich daheim bin (Donnerstag) und lass den Nastester laufen.
Hier mal die installierten Pakete:

Außerdem läuft noch BitWarden als self-hosted Instanz als Container, in der Surveillance Station sind 5 Kameras eingebunden, meine PCs machen Backups und ein enigma2 Receiver schreibt Aufnahmen auf die NAS. Aber nichts davon war heute Vormittag augenscheinlich aktiver als gewöhnlich. Backups oder Aufnahmen liefen am Morgen überhaupt nicht.

Gerade scheint die NAS sehr gut zu laufen und zu performen, wie man es erwarten würde, ich habe aber diese Probleme eigentlich täglich und teilweise auch über lange Zeiträume.

Ich denke ich habe gerade zumindest mal einen Auslöser gefunden. Direkt am Morgen hatte ich sehr gute hdparm Werte:

htop zeigt mir an, dass Sonarr gerade etwas tut:

Und innerhalb von Sonarr sehe ich, dass gerade der Task "Refresh series" läuft:

Vor wenigen Sekunden war der Task beendet (nach knapp 30 Minuten) und schon sind auch meine hdparm Werte wieder bei um die 600 MB/s.

Jetzt ist natürlich die Preisfrage, warum zwingt so ein bisschen I/O mein ganzes RAID so in die Knie?

Mir fehlt die Erfahrung mit RAID-Arrays, aber grundsätzlich werden Platten durch viele Kopfbewegungen sehr langsam. Du hast vier Spindeln, sicher, aber vielleicht reicht eine solche Last aus, um die Werte so zu drücken.

Die bessere Lösung für Kameraüberwachung ist dafür eine eigene, separate Festplatte zu verwenden. Das würde schon mal einen permanenten Datenstrom vom eigentlichen Datenarray weghalten. Also 3x RAID als Volume + 1x EinzelHDD für die Überwachung.

Um zu sehen, ob das einen Einfluß hat, vielleicht die Surveillance Station einfach mal stoppen.
