Hi, I have a Synology NAS DS918+ and have been struggling to set up quick connect. The NAS works normally over the internet, but when i try to set up quick connect for remote access outside of the home network it gives an error "Network error occurred. Please check your DNS and network settings.". I have checked multiple forums already and have tried manually configuring DNS to 8.8.8.8 and i have also turned off IPv6. I checked my regional settings and made sure it has the correct time zone and date/time settings. These were the answers i could find that helped other people with the same problem, but it hasn't worked for me. Any other suggestion: Confused:? Please help, I am going crazy here!

Please check your network settings under control panel > network.
Not only DNS, but mainly "default gateway".
Also interesting would be the settings under control panel > network > network interfaces > static route > ip routing tables > main table

You also said it works "normally over the internet". This is with respect to which setup?

If there is nothing obvious to be found within these settings, as well as e.g. router/firewalls which prevent access e.g. to IPs in Taiwan, and you do not want Synology on your machine, a DSM reinstall might be a time-saving option then.

The NAS is detected in mac os finder, and I can read/write files to it. This is in respect to the current set up, regardless of the changes i have tried, mentioned above (with or without those changes i see no effect).

Can you append the detailed view of "network interfaces" for eth2?
What is on LAN1? not connected or different config?

Mac OS Finder via afp or smb? That would be network access (LAN/WLAN), and NOT internet access.

Yes, you are correct, my mistake. The network access is working, but not internet access.
Mac OS Finder connects via afp. LAN1 is not connected.

And gateway 172.18.87.254 is the correct gateway for your network?
Your Mac uses the same gateway?

It is a valid IP for your network, but... just asking.
172.18.85.90 and Subnet 255.255.248.0 includes IPs from 172.18.80.1 up to 172.18.87.254

Edit:
maybe the Mac is cleared for access through the gateway, but the NAS is not?
Who is controlling the network switches/gateways/firewalls?

The Network switches/gateways/firewalls are all controlled by the IT department. And it was getting blocked by the firewall because it was not on the list of allowed IP's. It's on the allowed list now and it's finally working. Thank you so much for your help!
