Where did you get a package from?

I don't think it would work. But you can try it with my commands. Just change the filename in "./VBoxManage extpack install --replace.

If something goes wrong you can switch back with the same commands to an older version of the extensionpack.

Hi, habe das Package gemacht, aber als ich das Package auf meinem realen System installiert habe sind mit noch Fehler aufgefallen.
Es werden keine angeschlossenen USB Geräte erkannt, phpVirtualBox hat noch Probleme, z.B. beim ACPI Shutdown, oder Gasterweiterung installieren...
Ich habe jetzt leider keine Zeit mehr die Probleme auf dem Grund zu gehen, darum uploade ich das Package falls jemand experimentieren will.

Is it correct I cannot choose any x64 OS? I can only choose a 32 bits machine to install.

Don't know how it works on a DS412+. On my DS415+ I just installed Win10 Pro x64 successfully.

When I compare our processors (D2700 & C2538) I notice another difference.
The D2700 lacks Intel VT-x. I think this is my main problem...

Because a DS will never have a lot of memory, I think the lack of x64 is only a small disadvantage.

Yes and no...
I wanted to run Server 2008 r2 on my Syno. Server 2008 r2 = x64 only
Also Server 2012 (r2) = x64 only.

But for now, no problem. I'll just wait for the DS415+

Ok, this is a reason.

Normaly I use a small ESXi-Server with one disk and a SDD for the most used machines. This is quiet better and faster than trying to run VMs on NAS. I only wanted to see, if this works too.

I have an ESXI server running in a datacenter.
But it's nice to have a small server running at home as well. Just for some "not so resource-hungry" tasks.
I now have a dedicated (desktop) machine running Server 2008 r2 which does the taks (running a movie jukebox update task for instance).

Saves a little power if I could run it on my Syno. But I guess I can do these tasks on Win7 as well. So no worries.

And don't forget: Never say never. In fakt a DS1515+ can be upgraded up to 16GB of RAM. With newer technologies, like intelligent Tec. (IMM2G64D3 SOD8A), it should be possible to upgrade it up to 32GB of RAM. How ever, for this CPU, 64GB RAM will be the limmet. And what ever you think what a DS is, it is not a NAS. It is a little small powered, low consuming Server. Because a NAS is what it says a "Network Attached Storage". Meaning, a plumpy fucking filespace in your Network.

Thanks for the link. Problem is indeed VT-x. The Atom D2700 lacks this feature so I won't be able to run x64 hosts on the DS412+.
