FARM (Field Accessible Reliability Metrics) was developed by Seagate but is open source so other brands could add it to their drives. I believe it's HDD only.

FARM log (GP Log 0xa6) not supported for non-Seagate drives

I get this message on a WD 40EFZX, a very old Hitachi JPT3EA and a new Toshiba MG10ACA20TE. So it seems to look bad with the implementation of FARM, apart from Seagate. With a Seagate EXOS X18 ST18000NM000J, however, it also works perfectly under Windows 10.
I have already replaced the ‘drivedb.h’ file of the Smartmontools with a newer version from October 2024. Unfortunately, there was no change.

@Benie: Hier sieht man bei der neuen Seagate Platten (knapp über 70 Stunden gelaufen und tatsächlich für viel Geld frisch vom Distributor an sich :) ) auch, dass die bisher ausgegebenen Werte hier im Thema scheinbar Sinn machen, wenn diese nicht manipuliert worden sind. Nicht wie bei meinen 4 gebrauchten Platten, bei denen 3 Stück tatsächlich sehr ähnlich sind - wie du gestern auch bemerkt hast. Ich denke, dass wir mit dieser Vorgehensweise zumindest bei Seagate HDDs auf dem richtigen Weg sind, bei anderen Hersteller sieht es scheinbar mau aus mit der Implementierung von FARM.

Ja stimmt, ich kann da eigentlich keine Vergleiche ziehen, da ich bis auf einen Ausrutscher, in meinem Jugendlichen Leichtsinn 😂, bisher vor Jahren nur eine ext. Seagate gekauft habe. Die sind meine ersten Seagate. Ansonsten habe ich ausschließlich WD Red Plus.

Aber selbst mit rund 11000 Std. war der Preis als gebraucht zumindest in Ordnung.

Nur daß der Händler auf Anfrage Neuware zusichert, das geht nicht in Ordnung.

Hab ich persönlich keinerlei Schmerzen mit. Die Dinger sollen im Homelab rennen und mich meine Testszenarien durchführen lassen, mehr erwarte ich nicht. Wichtige Daten sind da zumindest bei mir nicht drauf. Hätte ich aber bisher auch keine Bedenken gehabt - laufen tun die Dinger sauber.
Nur daß der Händler auf Anfrage Neuware zusichert, das geht nicht in Ordnung.
Das geht natürlich nicht... Vor allem wenn die als refurbished verkauft worden wären. wäre die zu dem Kurs auch wie warme Semmeln weggegangen.

Hardware Reset Count könnte auch (mit dem Zusammenhang der FARM-Werte) Aufschluß über den bisherigen Verlauf bzw. Nutzung einer HDD in ihrem Nutzungszyklus sein.

Power on Hours: 30698
Damit bist du bisheriger Rekordhalter in dieser ungewollten Statistik.

Das ist eine gute Frage. Habe ich bisher bei keiner der fünf Seagates, die ich ausgelesen hatte. Was sagt denn dieser Wert bei deinen anderen Seagate Platten?
Vielleicht auch mal noch unter Windows auslesen. Bei DSM oder den Daten auf den Platten sollte da nichts Negatives passieren.

Siehe oben sind ja alle aufgeführt. Bei 3 HDDs ist er komisch hoch und bei einer "normal".
Unter Windows im Moment nicht möglich da die HDDs in der DS920+ laufen.

Die habe ich übersehen. Die Zahlen sind seltsam. Wichtiger Indikator ist allerdings "Power on hours".
Welchen Firmware-Stand hast du auf den Seagates drauf? Vergleiche die mal...

Die auf Windows war von Stand drittes Quartal 2023 und auch bei Smartmon selber habe ich keine viel Aktuellere gefunden, außer die bei GitHub.
Auf der DS habe ich da allerdings auch keine Neue hinzugefügt und bei mir passen die Werte ja.

Sooooo, nach guten 90mins habe ich es als NAS-Anfänger geschafft die FARM-Werte für meine beiden 16TB Seagate Exos X X16 HDDs im NAS auszulesen. Vielen Dank @maxblank und @ctrlaltdelete für die Anleitung. Allerdings bin ich nicht wie ihr über root@... eingeloggt, sondern per sh-4.4# (ich hatte sudo -s verwendet). Kann mir jemand erklären, warum bei euch i.d.R. root@... steht?

Meine beiden HDDs habe ich Mitte Jan/25 von m1ndfactory erhalten. Wenn ich mir meine Daten anschaue, gehe ich richtig in der Annahme, dass diese HDDs bereits 22xxx Stunden, sprich über 2,5 Jahre, im Betrieb waren?
